A Fast and Fun Method to Calm Down Children at Upside Down Yoga Kids

At Upside Down Yoga Kids, we understand that children, especially toddlers, often hold a lot of energy in their bodies, making it challenging for them to stay calm and focused. That’s why I’ve developed a simple yet powerful technique to help children calm down quickly and enjoy the process.

Whenever I notice a child struggling with excess energy, I immediately implement a fun and engaging plan of action. The key component of this method is to invite the children to a quick, joyful activity that positively redirects their energy. I often start by encouraging them to play a game that allows them to express themselves freely. Once they’ve had a burst of fun, I mark the time to create a rhythm and structure.

Right after they’re running around and laughing, I invite them to hide in their "turtle shell" — a fun visualization where they imagine retreating into a cozy, safe space. The results are incredible! This simple act suddenly calms their bodies and minds, transforming their excitement into a sense of peace. This type of practice helps their bodies to make the homeostasis easily and helps them to relax their nervous system.

I typically repeat this process with three or four "explosions" of fun and movement, which leaves the children happy, excited, and curious for more. This method not only helps them release energy quickly but also builds their ability to self-regulate in a joyful way.

At Upside Down Yoga Kids, our goal is to create a safe, playful environment where children learn to manage their energy through fun exercises that foster calmness and curiosity. This easy and effective approach makes a huge difference in helping children feel more centered and happy.
